A quick note to let everyone know what is coming up. This Saturday April 1st we are having our annual start to the mileage contest at BMW Motorcycles of Richfield. You should have received an email from our long-time mileage contest coordinators Dan Elasky and Steve Handeland. Also on April 1 is the OR BDR Expedition Documentary Film at Moon Motorsports. If you need more information contact member Alix Del Toro at Moon Motorsports. Alix has said that there will be giveaways and special items for BMW members in attendance.
Also on April 6th thru 8th is the Twin Cities Auto Show and Motorcycle and Powersports show at the Minneapolis Convention Center. You can find more information on our website calendar by clicking on the event listing.
Join us on Thursday April 13th at Leo’s South in Lakeville for our membership meeting. Meet at 6pm for pizza, meeting to start at 7pm. Our speakers for the evening will be Jeff Feldmeier, Beth Forristall, Curt Henry, Ken Henry, and Lorelei Peters as they share details about their recent motorcycle adventures south of the border on the Mayan Circle with Francisco Mendoza of BikeAdventure.
May begins with Moon Motorsports Open House on the 5th and 6th from 9 to 5. Then on the 7th Moon is presenting a program by Elspeth Baird “Around the World on Two Wheels.” She’ll recount her adventures as the first female to circumnavigate the globe by motorcycle.
On May 11th we are having our membership meeting at Moon Motorsports. Check the event calendar for more details and updates.
On May 13th the Airheads are having their Spring Tech Day at the Handeland’s residence from 9 to 5. Check our calendar for more details or contact Steve Handeland in order to R.S.V.P. Please be aware that all maintenance issues will need to be completed by the end of the event or you will have to have your bike trailered from the Handeland’s
residence.
Then we will be getting into the riding season (I hope). Check out the Great River Road Rally (GR3) happening on May 19th-21st. For more details, again, check the event calendar.
That brings us to June. As you are aware we have a busy month scheduled starting with our Hiawatha Rally. Cochairs Mike Murdaugh, Greg Fetter, and Joel Howard have been very busy ensuring that we have another great rally. Remember that this rally is for us to host/recruit others, and not necessarily “FOR US” that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy yourself, but hopefully you can while volunteering. If you can, they are looking for volunteers for many positions during the rally. Please check the event page and sign up using the volunteer sign up tab.
From the Hiawatha Rally many of us will continue our adventures by riding to the BMW MOA 50th National Rally in Doswell, Virginia. That starts on June 8th. Remember that we have been promoting the Hiawatha Rally as a stop over destination for west coast riders to recharge on their way to the National and perhaps join with us on our journeys to Doswell. So get out your Butler maps and start planning your route now. We will need someone to take the role of our group camping coordinator/member attendance recorder at the National Rally so we can win largest chartered club in attendance again. If you can help, please contact myself or any board member to volunteer.
I think that is enough events for now. Just remember that we will not have a membership meeting in June, due to the National Rally, and I’m sure you all will be sick of seeing me by then. If I failed to mention anything else upcoming it was not intentional. Please contact me and I will send out an update or announce it at our membership meeting.
Thanks for taking the time to read this. Here’s to the start of the riding season.
