Prez Sez - October 2024

Hi BMW Club,

I hope you are enjoying your autumn riding as the weather finally cools off. Here is the latest news about our club.

Group Rides

October 5 (tomorrow!) Chuck Banks is leading a club ride. As I write this, there are still spaces available. We are meeting at the Kwik Trip in Hastings. Please sign up at the event calendar on our club website.

October 12-13: Chuck Bushnell is planning a ride to his property in northern Wisconsin on Saturday and returning home Sunday. We can stay at their rustic cabin or camp overnight. See our event calendar for details. To sign up, please email Chuck

October 18-20: Our annual fall color ride event is in Trempealeau, Wisconsin. The rooms at the Little Bluff Inn are all booked, but people can still look for their own lodging in the area. See the event calendar for details.

Thanks to Steve Handeland for leading a club ride Saturday September 21 to the Stone Barn Pizza Farm near Nelson, WI.

Also, thanks to Steve Reese for hosting our annual Grand Marais campout August 23-26. We had a great turnout - about 25 campers.

Hiawatha Rally

We are excited that Owen Applequist has volunteered to be our 2025 rally co-chair. Owen will assist Dan Maki, our primary rally chair, and will be the rally chair in 2026 (our 49th!).

More good news: Dan Maki stopped by Money Creek on his way to the Iowa Pure Stodge Rally and the main restroom/shower facility is finally done.

Club Elections

As we explained in a previous email, Beth Forristall and I are stepping down as president and vice president this year. We have appreciated your support during the past three years. If this club is going to succeed, we need new leadership to step up and run. See an email from Steve Handeland this week that explains how to nominate candidates,

MOA Rally

We had 45 attendees at the national rally in Redmond, Oregon and placed third for the largest chartered club. This is really impressive for a rally on the west coast. The only clubs to surpass us were Northern California and Oregon.

Quilt Raffle

Congratulations to Leif Dickinson and Beth Forristall, who won our quilt raffle. We sold 237 tickets and raised $1185 for our club account! Thanks again to Penny Maki for lovingly creating these beautiful quilts.

Club Mileage Contest

It's time to wrap up our annual club mileage contest on October 27. Dan Elasky sent a club email 10/1 that explains how to submit your form. As we did last year, we will have a special category for non-BMW riders.  We will announce the winners at our annual club banquet in February.

Thanks,
Tim Schwartz
